On Monday, November 12, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Honda Accord contacted the Clifton Heights Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen.

Clifton Heights officers arrived on site, verified the theft, and had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda.

A short while later, officers from the Philadelphia Police Aviation Unit were on patrol in Philadelphia Police Helicopter TAC Air 1 when they picked up the Honda’s silent LoJack homing signals on the Police Tracking Computer installed in the aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officers tracked the signal to the area of 3500 Aramingo Avenue in the eastern section of Philadelphia. The officers reported the situation to Philadelphia Police Radio, and a marked police vehicle equipped with a LoJack Tracking Computer was dispatched to the area. The officer assigned to the marked police vehicle intercepted the LoJack signal and quickly located the vehicle, parked in the area of Aramingo Avenue. The officer cautiously approached the Honda, determined that it was unoccupied, and recovered the vehicle.

The Clifton Heights Police Department was notified of the recovery, and the incident remains under investigation.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2007 Honda Accord on March 1, 2008 at Piazza Honda of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
