On October 18, 2012, the owner of a 2005 Nissan Altima contacted the East Orange Police Department to report that her vehicle had been Car-Jacked from in front of her home while she was leaving to go to work. The owner also called the LoJack Customer Service Desk to advise LoJack of the theft.

The East Orange Police Department verified the theft and entered the Nissan’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short time later, patrol officers from the Newark Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Altima on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer, the officers tracked the vehicle and apprehended the Car-Jacker. The vehicle was recovered undamaged.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Nissan Altima on April 13, 2005 at Route 22 Nissan in Hillside, New Jersey.
