On August 31, 2012, the owner of a 2011 Magnum Light Tower contacted the Rockwall Police Department to report that the light tower was stolen from a job site in Rockwall. Rockwall Police verified the theft and entered the equipment’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the light tower.

Later, a Dallas Police helicopter picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen light tower on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their helicopter. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the helicopter tracked the stolen light tower to a paint ball facility (where you play paintball games) in rural Kaufman County.  The helicopter was able to direct patrol officers to the paint ball facility, where officers found the stolen light tower parked in a field at the rear of this complex.  The paint ball facility was open and the manager told officers he did not know how the stolen light tower made it onto his grounds. The equipment was recovered without any damage.

This remains an ongoing investigation with a possible arrest pending.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2011 Magnum Light Tower in June of 2011 at Sunbelt Rentals in Ft Worth, Texas.
