On June 3, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Land Rover contacted the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department to report their vehicle stolen from their home garage following a “Hot Prowl” burglary in the City of Palm Desert.  Riverside Sheriff’s Palm Desert verified the theft and entered the Land Rover’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short time later, deputies from San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Land Rover on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computer; the deputies tracked the stolen vehicle to 40th Street and Waterman Avenue, in the City of San Bernardino. There, the deputies observed the stolen Land Rover exiting a gas station, occupied by two male suspects.

The deputies attempted a vehicle stop, but the driver failed to comply and continued driving westbound on 40th Street before turning onto a “dead end” street at. Both suspects fled the vehicle on foot. Officers from the San Bernardino Police Department responded to assist and located the driver hiding in a shed; the police quickly took him into custody. Unfortunately, the passenger suspect eluded capture.

Property from the residential burglary was also found inside the Land Rover. The driver (a parolee) was arrested for Auto Theft, Possession of Stolen Property and Evading Arrest, with Burglary charges pending from Riverside County. The undamaged vehicle was towed and stored. While in the County Jail holding area prior to booking this suspect the deputies received yet another LoJack hit from a stolen 2006 Chevrolet Avanti from the City of San Bernardino, which they tracked and recovered, with another arrest.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2007 Land Rover at Land Rover South Bay, Redondo Beach, CA on January 31, 2007.
