On August 2, 2012 the owner of a 2008 Lexus ES350 contacted the Philadelphia Police Department to report their vehicle stolen from the West Philadelphia Area. Philadelphia officers verified the theft and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Lexus.

A short while later, officers from the Norristown Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Lexus on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a parking lot in Norristown. The officers determined that the vehicle was unoccupied, and confiscated the vehicle at the request of the Philadelphia Police Major Crimes Auto Squad. The Lexus was towed to a secure facility, where the Auto Squad division had the vehicle processed for physical evidence. This incident remains under investigation.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus ES350 on September 21, 2001 at Central City Toyota.
