On Tuesday morning, July 3, 2012, the owner of a 2002 Toyota Camry 4-door sedan contacted the Broward County Sheriff’s Office – Pompano Beach District to report their vehicle stolen. The owner advised the deputy that her daughter had left her purse with a set of keys in it in the unlocked car the previous night.

Broward County deputies verified the theft and had the Toyota’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A little while later, a deputy with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office picked up the Toyota’s silent LoJack homing signal on his on-board LoJack Police Tracking computer (PTC). Following the directional and audible cues on the PTCs, the deputy, along with backup, located the stolen Toyota near N.W. 17th Street and First Avenue in Pompano Beach, Florida.

The officers set up surveillance on the Toyota and were quickly rewarded. They observed a suspect rifling through the vehicle; officers converged upon the vehicle and apprehended the suspect for trespass of a vehicle and burglary to a vehicle. Other charges are pending. The vehicle was recovered, released to the owner at the scene, and removed from federal and state crime computer systems.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Camry on October 17, 2002 by Maroone Toyota, Davie, Florida and has been protecting it ever since. The owner was unaware that her vehicle was equipped with the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Police Recovery System, but was ecstatic that it was, as the vehicle was recovered so quickly.
