On July 8, 2012, RSH Construction left a rented Lincoln Welder — attached to a trailer — at a job site in Concord, California. The Welder belonged to Sunstate Equipment Rentals in Pacheco, California.  When the renters returned to the job site on the morning of July 9, they discovered that a thief had disabled the chain and lock that had been securing the welder at the site. A representative of Sunstate Equipment contacted the Concord Police Department to report that the welder had been stolen.

Concord officers verified the theft and entered the equipment’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the welder.

A short while later, officers from the Concord Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen welder with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in their patrol vehicles.  The LoJack PTC provides officers with on-board information which permits them to locate the stolen vehicle quickly and with an increased margin of safety. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack PTCs, the officers tracked the welder to a residence in Concord.  Officers obtained entry to the home, found the welder and trailer inside the garage of the residence, and arrested the owner of the property for Grand Theft. Sunstate Equipment responded to the scene and took possession of their property.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this welder on August 29, 2008 at Sunstate Equipment in Pacheco, California.
