On June 14, 2012, the owner of a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Compton station to report that his vehicle was stolen from the Citadel Outlets in Commerce. The Los Angeles County deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Chevrolet.

A short while later, officers from Orange County Sheriff’s Department air and ground units picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Chevrolet on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their helicopter and patrol vehicles.  Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle as it traveled southbound on Interstate 5. In Mission Viejo, the officers initiated a traffic stop on the Chevrolet Silverado and arrested the driver for possession of stolen property.

The Chevrolet, valued at $10,450, was recovered with only minor damage to the ignition and left front door lock.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Chevrolet, Silverado on June 24, 2004 at El Monte Power Chevrolet.
