On June 8, 2012, the owner of a Volvo V-70 station wagon contacted the Roswell Police Department to report the vehicle stolen from the 100 Block of Hembree Road in Roswell, Georgia. Roswell Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Volvo.

After a period of time, officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department in Maryland picked up the silent Lojack homing signals from the stolen Volvo on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to the 7000 block of Arundel Mills Circle in the Hanover area of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. There, the officers located the unoccupied stolen Volvo. Officers approached the vehicle and discovered that the public identification number visible through the windshield had been changed in an attempt to conceal the vehicle’s identity. The officers established surveillance on the stolen Volvo, and after a short time, a suspect returned to the vehicle and was arrested by police.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Volvo V-70 in December of 1997 at Boston Volvo Village.
