Stolen Honda Motorcycle Recovered by Los Angeles Deputies Using LoJack, Only Minor Damage

On June 6, 2012, the owner of a 2006 Honda CBR 600 contacted the Downey Police Department to report her motorcycle stolen. Downey Police verified the theft and entered the Honda’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the motorcycle.
Minutes later, police agencies in Los Angeles County were picking up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda motorcycle on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTCs) installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible signals from the LoJack Trackers, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department quickly located the parked and unoccupied bike on a residential street in the city of Rosemead.
The deputies set up surveillance and monitored the motorcycle for some time, hoping to catch the thief. However, after several hours without any activity around the vehicle, the deputies recovered the bike and held it for safekeeping.
The Honda motorcycle sustained minor damage to its ignition, and it had been “hot-wired”. The owner stated the motorcycle was valued at $13,000, and was extremely happy that she had LoJack installed in the bike the previous May.
