2 Suspects Arrested by LAPD for Theft of Toyota Camry After Pursuit, Collision

On June 1, 2012, the owners of a 2007 Toyota Camry contacted the Los Angeles Police Department-Northeast Division to report the vehicle stolen. LAPD officers verified the theft and entered the Toyota’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later, officers from the Santa Monica College Police and the Santa Monica Police Departments picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the moving Toyota and attempted to stop the vehicle. The suspects failed to comply and a vehicle pursuit ensued. At Centinela and Washington Boulevards, LAPD Pacific Division officers and the LAPD Air unit took over the pursuit. The stolen vehicle collided with another vehicle at Venice Boulevard and Canfield Avenues. The suspects fled on foot and scaled a wall of an apartment building. LAPD K-9 units responded to the location and located the suspects.  LAPD officers took two suspects into custody for Driving without Owner’s Consent without further incident.

The vehicle was recovered and impounded for safekeeping. The value of this recovery is $13,750.00.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Camry at the owner’s request in March of 2007 at David Wilsons South Bay Toyota, in the City of Gardena.
