Salt Lake City Officers Recover Stolen Ford F150 Pickup Before Major Damage was Done

On May 31, 2012, the owner of a Ford F-150 contacted the Unified Police Department to report that their truck was stolen from a 7/11 Store in Unincorporated Salt Lake County. The owner stated that he had left the vehicle running, in front of the store, while he went inside to shop. Unified Police officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the pickup truck.

A short while later, officers from the Salt Lake City Police Department picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Ford F150 on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack computers, the officers tracked the vehicle to a residential neighborhood just outside the city limits of Salt Lake City, in nearby Murray. The officers located the vehicle, which was missing the speakers and AMP from behind the seat, but was otherwise intact. The current owner had no idea that a LoJack System had been installed by the truck’s previous owner over 12 years ago.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Ford F150 in November 1999 at Able Ford Auto Sales in Rockville, NY.
