Kern County Air Unit Using LoJack Aids in Recovery of Stolen GMC Canyon

On the morning of May 28, 2012, the owner of a 2006 GMC Canyon contacted the Bakersfield Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. After verifying the theft, Bakersfield officers had the GMC’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.
A short time later, the flight crew of a Kern County Sheriff’s Department helicopter began to receive the GMC’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their aircraft. Following the directional and audible signal on the LoJack Tracker, the flight crew tracked the vehicle to the parking lot of a business in the 6900 block of Ming Avenue in Bakersfield. The flight crew directed units from the Bakersfield Police Department to the location of the vehicle. The vehicle was found intact and undamaged, abandoned in a parking lot. The officers recovered the GMC and released it to the owner at the scene.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the GMC Canyon at the owner’s request in October of 2010. .
