On May 27, 2012, the owner of a 2002 BMW 325I discovered that her vehicle had been stolen and immediately reported the crime to the San Diego Police Department. After verifying the theft, San Diego officers had the BMW’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems, which activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.

A short time later, officers with the San Diego Police Department began to receive the BMW’s silent LoJack signal on their police vehicle’s LoJack Police Tracking Computer. Following the directional and audible signal from the LoJack Tracker, the officers quickly located the vehicle, abandoned on Cowley Ave. in the Clairemont Mesa area of San Diego.

The BMW 325I had been installed with the LoJack Vehicle Recovery System nine years earlier, in March of 2003, by the vehicle’s previous owner.
