LAPD Police Stop Stolen Camry, Arrest 2 Suspects for Theft, Narcotics & Outstanding Warrants

On the afternoon of May 25, 2012, the owner of a 2002 Toyota Camry contacted the Burbank Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. After verifying the theft, Burbank officers had the Camry’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.
A short time later, LAPD Air-18 flight officers were on patrol when they picked up the Camry’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in the aircraft. Following the directional and audible signal on the LoJack Tracker, the flight officers determined that the vehicle was being driven in the area of Menota and Toland Way. As Air-18 continued to observe the vehicle from above, ground units closed in and caught up to the stolen Toyota, making a “high risk vehicle stop” near Avenue 49 south of Mendoza. The occupants, a female passenger and male driver, were taken into custody without further incident. The driver, a “career criminal” was subsequently booked for Driving without Owner’s Consent, and the female for warrants and possession of narcotics. The Camry was stored and later released to the victim.
