On May 18, 2012, a 2009 Honda Accord was stolen from East 14th Street in lower Manhattan, while the owner was visiting a friend in the area. When the owner returned to his vehicle, he discovered it missing and immediately notified the New York Police Department’s 9th Precinct of the theft. NYPD officers verified the theft and had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers, which activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda.

A short while later, officers assigned to the NYPD’s 13th Precinct picked up the Honda’s homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible signals on the LoJack Trackers, the officers located the stolen Honda, parked on Avenue C. Police established surveillance on the vehicle for several hours, but when no one returned for the vehicle, the officers eventually contacted the owner and released the undamaged vehicle to the owner at the recovery scene.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda Accord in Brooklyn, New York on January 2009.
