LASD Officers Stop Stolen Honda Accord, Arrest Driver Carrying a Shaved Key

On May 15, 2012, the owner of a Honda Accord contacted the El Segundo Police Department to report the vehicle stolen. El Segundo officers verified the theft and had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems, which activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle.
A short while later, a LASD Century Station deputy picked up the Honda’s silent LoJack signal on the Police Tracking Computer installed in his patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible signal on the LoJack Tracker, the deputy observed the stolen vehicle pass him on Martin Luther King Boulevard, driven by a male suspect. When requested back-up units arrived, the police conducted a high-risk traffic stop, and took the suspect into custody. The deputy’s investigation revealed that the suspect was using a shaved key to operate the vehicle. The suspect admitted knowing that the vehicle was stolen and was driving it to a location for someone. Century Detectives are conducting the follow-up investigation.
This is the second time in two months that this vehicle has been stolen and recovered utilizing the LoJack Vehicle Recovery System. Each time, a suspect was caught driving the stolen vehicle.
