CHP Flight Officers Direct San Luis Obispo Ground Officers to Stolen Dodge Pickup

On May 7, 2012, California Highway Patrol “Air 71” flight officers picked up a silent LoJack homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) installed in their aircraft. After calling in the Reply Code appearing on the PTC display to the nationwide law enforcement crime database, they were informed that they were tracking a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck reported stolen hours earlier.

Following the directional and signal strength cues on the PTC, the flight officers tracked and located the vehicle at Waypoint Drive / Camino Caballo, in the Nipomo Mesa area. CHP-San Luis Obispo Station patrol units responded to the location. The stolen pickup was recovered and impounded for evidence. The officers conducted an investigation at the location, but were unable to locate any suspects. The investigation is still ongoing.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Dodge Ram at the owner’s request in December 1999.
