Lexus SUV Stolen in Harris County Recovered, Parked in Houston Apartment Complex, License Plate Missing

When the owners of a 2004 330 Lexus SUV discovered their vehicle had been stolen on May 1, 2012, they immediately filed a theft report with the Harris County Precinct 4’s constables. After all the pertinent information was gathered, the constables entered the Lexus’s information into the nationwide law enforcement stolen vehicle computer system. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Lexus, thereby prompting the transponder to emit a silent homing signal. Neither the owners nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to cause the activation of the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, as LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than an hour later, officers from the Houston Police Department received the homing signals from the stolen Lexus on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in their patrol cars. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the PTC, the officers quickly located the vehicle in an apartment parking lot, backed into a parking space with the front license tag missing. Officers with the auto theft task force were summoned to the location and conducted surveillance on the vehicle. When no one returned after some time, the officers recovered the vehicle and had it impounded for safekeeping until the owner could be located.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus at the original owner’s request in May 2004.
