"Okay, I Give Up!", Surrenders Suspect After Theft of Honda Odyssey in Anaheim, CA

On May 6, 2012, an Anaheim Police Department’s canine officer was on patrol with his Canine “RECON” when he began to receive a silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) installed in his patrol vehicle. After querying the LoJack Reply Code appearing on the computer display against the police computer database, he was advised that the signal was emitting from a 2009 Honda Odyssey reported stolen to the Buena Park Police Department a few hours earlier.
Following the directional and signal strength cues on the PTC, the officer tracked the signal into the city of Orange, where he observed the vehicle being driven on Lemon Avenue. The suspect saw the officer and attempted to flee. After driving a short distance, the suspect pulled over, stuck his hands out of the driver’s window and shouted “okay, I give up”. The suspect was then taken into custody without further incident, and later booked for related vehicle theft charges. The recovered undamaged Honda Odyssey was released to the victim at the scene of the arrest.
