Acquaintance Steals Mercury Villager — Arrested After LAPD Conducts High-Risk Traffic Stop

On April 30, 2012, a Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division Sergeant picked up the LoJack signal from a 1993 Mercury Villager reported stolen hours earlier to the Riverside Sheriff’s Office’s Lake Elsinore Station.

Following the directional cues on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in his police car, the sergeant located the vehicle, being driven by one male suspect. The sergeant requested back-up, and when they arrived, the police conducted a high-risk traffic stop and took the suspect into custody.

The officers’ subsequent investigation revealed that the suspect knew the victim, and admitted stealing his vehicle. The suspect was also in possession of drug paraphernalia and was arrested for Driving without Owners Consent. Central Detectives are conducting the follow-up investigation.
