On April 15, 2012, flight officers with Los Angeles Police Department’s Air-3 helicopter began to pick up a silent LoJack homing signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) installed in their aircraft. After querying the “Reply Code” appearing on the PTC’s display, the officers were informed that the signal was emanating from a 2005 Ford Expedition reported stolen five minutes earlier to the LAPD’s Southwest Division.

The flight officers directed ground units to the Ford’s location, at 30th Street and St. Andrews Street. The ground officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop, taking the female driver into custody. Their subsequent investigation revealed that the victim’s home had been burglarized; property was stolen along with the vehicle keys and the vehicle. The driver claimed someone had asked her to drive the vehicle to a car show. The female suspect was arrested for Grand Theft Auto. Southwest Detectives are conducting the follow-up investigation.
