14-Year Old LoJack System Enables Quick Recovery of Stolen Honda Accord

 A 1997 Honda Accord was stolen between the late evening hours of April 25, 2012 and early morning of April 26 from the owner’s residence in the 7900 block of SE 72nd Avenue in Portland.  When the owner discovered the theft, he reported it to the Portland Police Bureau.

Portland Police completed the stolen vehicle report and had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda. Neither the owner, nor law enforcement agents, had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.

Less than two hours later, officers with the Portland Police received the Honda’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol car. Following the audio and visual cues on the computer display, officers located the vehicle at SE Harney & SE 67th Avenue.  The only damage appeared to be to the steering lock and ignition.

The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda in September 1997, when the vehicle was new. The current owner did not even know that the vehicle was equipped with LoJack.
