Acura TL Stolen and Recovered in Brooklyn by NYPD Officers Using LoJack

On April 24, 2012, the owner of a 2006 Acura TL parked and locked his vehicle on the street where he lives in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn. When he returned for it, he found it missing and contacted the New York Police Department’s 78th Precinct to report the theft.
NYPD officers completed a written report and had this information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the Acura. Neither the owner nor the police had to take any further action to activate the LoJack tracking system, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Minutes later, the Police of the Brooklyn South Auto Larceny Unit picked up the Acura’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicle. Following the directional signals on the computer, the officers tracked the Acura to a residential area of the Navy Yard section of Brooklyn, confines of the 88th Precinct. There, they found the Acura parked on a residential street. The officers staked out the vehicle for several hours, but when no one returned for it, they took the Acura into custody. Examination of the vehicle revealed that the front right tire had been changed, and a donut was placed on it: there were also a couple of minor scratches on the bumper. Otherwise, the vehicle was intact; apparently, the vehicle had been stolen with a key.
The police contacted the owner, who was elated to learn that his vehicle had been recovered so quickly, and with such minor damage. The owner also stated that he was pleased that he had the LoJack Vehicle Recovery System installed when he purchased the car in Brighton, MA – without it, he believes the vehicle might never have been recovered.
