LoJack Enables San Diego Police to Quickly Recover Stolen Jeep, Arrest Two Suspects

On April 21, 2012, the owner of a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee discovered that the vehicle had been stolen, and immediately reported the theft to the San Diego Police Department.
San Diego Police completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Jeep’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Jeep. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to take any further action to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than three hours later, San Diego Police ground units began to pick up the Jeep’s silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) installed in their patrol car. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the PTC, the officers located the vehicle in the area of 400 38th Street. San Diego Police recovered the vehicle, and had it towed and stored for safekeeping until the owner could be notified. Further investigation by auto theft detectives resulted in the arrest of two suspects.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System had been installed in the Jeep Grand Cherokee 15 years ago. The current owner was happy that her vehicle had LoJack, but was happier still when police called her to advise her that her vehicle was recovered undamaged.
