CHP Officers Track and Locate Stolen Toyota Corolla in Simi Valley, Minutes After Theft is Reported

On April 22, 2012, California Highway Patrol officers assigned to the Moorpark Station picked up a silent LoJack signal on their patrol car’s LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). After querying the “Reply Code” on the PTC against the police stolen vehicle database, they were informed that the signal was emanating from a 2008 Toyota Corolla reported stolen thirty minutes earlier to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita Station.
Following the directional and signal strength cues from the PTC, the officers tracked and located the vehicle, parked in the driveway of a private residence in the 6400 block of Vanette Street, in the city of Simi Valley. Officers conducted an investigation of the area, and then impounded the vehicle for fingerprints. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by detectives from CHP Ventura County Auto Theft Task Force.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Corolla at the owner’s request in July 2007.
