Police Arrest One for Theft of Ford Econoline Van from Home Depot Store in NJ

On the evening of March 30, 2012, The Home Depot store in Union Township, NJ contacted the Union Police Department to report that one of their Ford Econoline E350s had been stolen.
The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the Ford’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems – a routine police action that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the Econoline van.
Just over an hour later, officers from the Union and Essex County Police Departments began to receive the Ford’s silent LoJack signal on their patrol cars’ LoJack Police Tracking Computers. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the tracking computers, the officers quickly located the stolen van. After a brief surveillance, the officers observed a male suspect enter the van and attempt to drive away; they quickly stopped and arrested him, and charged him with possession of a stolen vehicle.
