Mazda 3 Stolen and Recovered Minutes Later by San Francisco Police Using LoJack

On March 31, 2012, the owner of a 2010 Mazda 3 discovered that his vehicle was stolen from where he had parked it in San Francisco. The owner contacted the San Francisco Police Department, who completed a stolen vehicle report on the Mazda and had the vehicle information entered into the California and federal crime computer systems. This police action automatically and seamlessly activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the Mazda.
Minutes later, officers with the San Francisco Police Department began to receive the Mazda’s silent LoJack signal on their patrol car’s LoJack Police Tracking Computers. Following the directional and signal strength cues from the computers, the officers tracked and located the stolen Mazda. Within 20 minutes of the theft being reported, the undamaged vehicle was recovered by police, and the grateful owner notified.
