LASD Deputies Arrest 2 Suspects for Drug Possession, Probation Violation, Theft of Honda Civic

On March 22, 2012, the owner of a 1999 Honda Civic reported the vehicle stolen to the Downey Police Department. The Downey Police completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer databases – a routine police action that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the Honda Civic.
Several hours later, a deputy from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s Norwalk/La Mirada area picked up the Honda’s silent LoJack signal on their patrol vehicle’s LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC). Following the directional cues on the PTC, the officers – assisted by LASD Air-8 and other units – observed the vehicle pulling into a retail parking lot near Imperial Highway and Edwards Road in the City of La Miranda. The flight deputies observed a male suspect and a female suspect exit the vehicle and enter the stores. Deputies arrived at the location, obtained a description of the suspects, and escorted them from the store.
Both suspects were placed under arrest and questioned. The female indicated that she had just been picked up by the male and did not know the vehicle was stolen. The male stated that he had seen the vehicle at a tire shop in the city of Whittier and had noted the vehicle’s engine was running. He claimed that he just decided to take the vehicle, and drove to the location where he picked up the female. This suspect was later booked for Auto Theft and Probation Violation. The female was booked for possession of a Meth Pipe. The case was referred to station detectives for filing of charges.
