Utah Highway Patrol Track & Recover Chevrolet Silverado Stolen in Summit County, 2 Arrested

The owners of a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado had no idea that their truck was equipped with a LoJack Vehicle Recovery System by the prior owner, but it would soon play an important role in recovering their stolen truck, and leading to the arrest of the thieves.
On March 9, 2012, the owners discovered that their truck was stolen near Coalville Utah and contacted the Summit County Sheriff’s Office to report the theft. After preparing a stolen vehicle report, Summit County deputies had the Chevrolet’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the Chevrolet. Neither the owners nor law enforcement agents had to take any further action to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery Network, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
On March 13, the stolen truck drove over the Wasatch Front into Utah County, where the LoJack Tower near Provo activated the hidden LoJack transponder. Minutes later, a Trooper with the Utah Highway Patrol picked up the silent signal in his LoJack-equipped patrol car. Following the directional signal from his onboard computer, the Trooper quickly located the truck in a Wal-Mart parking lot in the City of Orem.
Upon seeing a dog inside the truck, the Trooper set up surveillance and waited until two suspects returned to the truck and got inside. The Trooper immediately stopped the truck and took both suspects into custody. The investigation remains ongoing, as the two suspects were involved in passing a forged document inside the store.
The stolen truck was tracked and recovered over 60 miles away from where it had been taken.
