Toyota RAV4 Stolen in Mount Vernon Recovered with Only Minor Damage, Minutes Later, in the Bronx

On the night of March 14, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Toyota RAV-4 parked her vehicle at her residence in Westchester County and went inside. When she returned for the Toyota the following morning, she discovered it missing and immediately notified the Mount Vernon Police Department of the theft.
Mount Vernon Police completed a stolen vehicle report and had the Toyota’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Minutes later, detectives assigned to the Bronx’s DA’s Auto Squad picked up the silent LoJack signal on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their vehicle. Following the directional and tracking cues from the computer, the officers located the stolen Toyota parked on W244th Street in the Bronx’s 50th precinct. The officers conducted surveillance on the Toyota for a short time, but failed to locate any suspects. The Toyota was recovered with only minor damage to the ignition, impounded for safekeeping and later released to an extremely happy owner.
