Toyota Camry Stolen in San Francisco's Chinatown Recovered Undamaged and Abandoned in Oakland

On March 18, 2012, the owner of a 2009 Toyota Camry awoke to discover that his car was missing from where he last parked it on Geary Street in the Chinatown area of San Francisco. The owner called the San Francisco Police Department to report the theft.
San Francisco officers prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the Toyota’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer databases. This routine police action automatically and seamlessly activated the hidden LoJack transponder in the Toyota, as LoJack’s system is directly linked with law enforcement agencies.
Minutes later, several Oakland Police Department units across the San Francisco Bay began tracking the stolen Toyota with their On-Board LoJack Police Tracking Computers. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the tracking computer, Oakland officers quickly located the stolen Toyota, abandoned on the street in an industrial area of Oakland. The owner was contacted to reclaim his undamaged vehicle, less than one hour from the time of the original police report.
