Oakland Police Quickly Recover Caterpillar Loader Stolen from Construction Site

On March 19, 2012, Bay Cities Paving & Grading Construction Company reported to Oakland PD that their 2010 Caterpillar Skip Loader was stolen from a construction site in Oakland. Oakland officers prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the loader’s information entered into the state and federal crime databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the Caterpillar loader. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to take any further action to initiate the LoJack tracking system, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Within minutes, several Oakland Police Department units were already tracking the stolen construction equipment with their On-Board LoJack Police Tracking Computers. Following the directional and signal strength cues on the computers, Oakland officers quickly located the loader, abandoned on the street half a mile away from where it was stolen. A missing peripheral attachment was the only damage to the equipment. Bay Cities Paving was contacted to reclaim their property.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the loader on December 13, 2010.
