Oakland Police Recover Undamaged Stolen Mercedes, Abandoned on the Street

Close to midnight on March 12, 2012, the owner of a 2006 Mercedes C240 discovered that his vehicle was stolen in Oakland, California. The owner called the Oakland Police Department to report the theft.
After officers prepared a stolen vehicle report, they had the information about the stolen Mercedes entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically and seamlessly activated the LoJack transponder hidden within the stolen Mercedes. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Within minutes, Oakland Police Department and San Leandro Police Department units, equipped with LoJack’s Police Tracking Computers, were already picking up the silent LoJack tracking signal from the stolen Mercedes on the south side of Oakland. The Oakland officers, following the directional cues on the tracking computer, located the Mercedes, abandoned on the street. The grateful owner was contacted to reclaim his undamaged vehicle.
