LAPD Officers Recover Stolen Toyota Corolla Minutes After Theft is Reported

In the early morning hours of March 5, 2012, the owner of a 2010 Toyota Corolla reported the vehicle stolen to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division. LAPD officers prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the Toyota’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer systems. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Corolla. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Minutes later, officers from the LAPD’s Mission Division picked up the silent LoJack homing signal from the stolen Toyota on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicle. Following the directional cues on the tracking computer, the officers located the Corolla, parked and abandoned in the 13200 block of Phillippi Street. The vehicle was impounded for safekeeping until it could be returned to the owner. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by detectives from the LAPD’s Mission Division.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Corolla at the owner’s request in July 2010.
