Honda CR-V Stolen from Street in Brooklyn, Recovered Quickly in Good Condition

On March 15, 2012, the owner of a 2003 Honda CRV parked and locked his vehicle on the street where he lives in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn. When he returned for it, he found it missing and immediately called the New York Police Department’s 62nd Precinct.
After completing a stolen vehicle report, NYPD officers had the Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer system. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the Honda CRV. Neither the owner nor law enforcement had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
A short while later, the Police of the Brooklyn South Auto Larceny Unit picked up the Honda’s LoJack signal on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional cues on the tracking computer, they followed the vehicle through the Brooklyn South area, and eventually into the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn. There, they located the vehicle, parked and abandoned on the street. The officers conducted surveillance for a short period of time, but when no one returned for the vehicle, they took the BMW into custody. Although the interior of the BMW was ransacked, the vehicle was recovered in good condition, with only minor damage to the ignition and door.
The owner was contacted and was thrilled to learn that his vehicle was recovered so quickly, and with such minor damage.
