Recovery of One LoJack-Equipped Ford F250 Pickup Nets a 2nd Pickup Recovery, 2 Arrested

On March 8, 2012, the owner of a 2005 Ford F250 pickup heard a noise outside his home and looked out just in time to see someone driving off in his truck. The owner immediately filed a theft report with the South Houston Police Department. After all the pertinent information was gathered, South Houston officers entered the Ford’s information into the nationwide law enforcement stolen vehicle computer system. This routine action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement had to do anything else to cause the activation of the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with law enforcement is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than one hour later, officers from the Houston Police Department’s auto theft division received the silent homing signals from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) installed in their patrol cars. Following the directional and signal strength information by their PTC, officers located the pickup parked at a residence on the near east side of downtown Houston. Officers set up surveillance on the truck, and a short while later a suspect entered the vehicle and drove away. Officers stopped the vehicle and the driver was quickly arrested. Upon returning to the residence, officers identified a second Ford F250 pickup reported stolen from South Houston. Both vehicles were returned to the grateful owners and two suspects were taken downtown and charged with felony theft.
The LoJack was installed in the Ford pickup at the original owner’s request in June 2005.
