Lexus ES300 Stolen in Louisville, CO, Recovered in Minutes by Denver Police Using LoJack

On the morning of March 6, 2012, the owner of a 2003 Lexus ES300 discovered that the vehicle had been stolen in Louisville, Colorado, and immediately contacted the Louisville Police Department to report the theft. At the time, the owners did not know that the vehicle was equipped with a LoJack Vehicle Recovery System.
Louisville Police prepared a stolen vehicle report and had this information entered into the state and federal crime databases. This routine police action automatically and seamlessly activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. The transponder then began to emit a silent homing signal to police vehicles in the area equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC).
Minutes later, officers with the Denver Police Department and the Metro Auto Theft Task Force (MATT) picked up the silent LoJack tracking signal from the stolen Lexus on their LoJack PTCs. Following the computer’s tracking cues, the officers tracked the stolen Lexus to the 900 block of Mariposa Street, where it was located, abandoned on the street. The officers conducted a brief surveillance of the vehicle, but when the suspect(s) failed to return for it, they recovered the Lexus and returned it to the grateful owner. The investigation remains ongoing.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Lexus ES300 at a previous owner’s request, three years ago at Tri-County Lexus in Patterson, New Jersey.
