Volvo S90 Stolen and Recovered in San Diego, Minutes After Theft is Reported

On the night of February 25, 2012, the owner of a 1998 Volvo S90 discovered that her vehicle had been stolen, and quickly reported the theft to the San Diego Police Department. The responding officer verified the theft and, after obtaining all pertinent vehicle information, completed a stolen vehicle report. The officer then had the Volvo’s information entered into the state and federal crime computer databases – a routine police action that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Vehicle Recovery System Network, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Ten minutes later, San Diego Police ground units began to pick up the silent homing signals from the stolen Volvo on the Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicle. Following the directional and audible cues from the tracking computer, the officers located the abandoned Volvo in the 600 block of Toyne Street. The undamaged vehicle was recovered by police and the grateful owner was able to drive the vehicle home from the scene.
