On the morning of March 4, 2012, the owner of a 2003 Mercedes-Benz E-500 contacted the Baltimore City Police Department to report the vehicle stolen from the 600 block of North Potomac Street in Baltimore City. The responding officer conducted a preliminary investigation and after obtaining all the vehicle information, completed a vehicle theft report. The officer then had this information entered into the state and federal crime computer databases – a routine police action that automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Mercedes. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, because LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Minutes later, officers from the Baltimore City Police Department received the silent homing signal from the Mercedes on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible signal of the LoJack computer, the officers tracked the Mercedes to the 700 block of. North Ellwood Avenue. There, the officers located the abandoned Mercedes. The undamaged vehicle was recovered and returned to the grateful owner.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Mercedes at the car buyer’s request in December, 2002.
