Ex-Girlfriend, with History of Stalking and Harrassing, is Key Suspect in Theft of Lexus SUV Recovered in Brooklyn

On the night of March 5, 2012, the owner of a 2010 Lexus RX350 parked and locked his vehicle on the street in the Boreum Hill section of Brooklyn while he was visiting a friend in the area. When he returned for his car some time later, he discovered it missing and immediately called the NYPD’s 78th Precinct.
When the police arrived, they took a written report and had information about the Lexus entered into the state and federal crime computer databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the Lexus. Neither the owner nor law enforcement agents had to take any further action to activate the LoJack system, as the link between LoJack and the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
A short while later, officers with the Brooklyn South Auto Larceny Unit picked up the silent homing signal from the stolen Lexus on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the computer’s directional and signal strength cues, the officers tracked the Lexus through the Brooklyn South area, and into the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, several miles away. There, they located the vehicle, parked on a residential street. They set up surveillance on the Lexus, but when no one returned for it, they took the vehicle into custody. The undamaged Lexus was recovered, and the grateful owner notified.
Investigation revealed that the Lexus was taken with a key, and that the owner’s ex-girlfriend – against whom police have placed an Order of Protection Warrant for harassing and stalking the owner – is the suspect in the ongoing investigation.
