California Officers Conduct Felony Traffic Stop, Arrest Two Suspects for Theft of Chevrolet Malibu

On the morning of March 5, 2012, the owner of a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu awoke and discovered that unknown suspect(s) had broken into his garage and stolen his vehicle. The vehicle immediately contacted the Merced County Sheriff’s Department to file a theft report.
After verifying the theft, Merced County deputies had the Malibu’s information entered into the state and federal crime databases. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed within the vehicle. Neither the owners nor law enforcement agents had to do anything else to activate the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery Network, as LoJack’s interface with the police is both seamless and instantaneous.
Less than 30 minutes later, officers with the Lodi Police Department and the California Highway Patrol Stockton Area began to receive the silent signal from the stolen Malibu on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and signal strength cues on their tracking computers, the officers located the vehicle, being driven near downtown Lodi. The officers conducted a felony traffic stop and took two male suspects into custody without further incident.
The suspects were booked for auto theft. The undamaged Chevrolet Malibu was impounded for safekeeping until it could be released to the owner.
