Parolee Arrested for Theft of Recovered Jeep, in Possession of Burglary Tools, Drugs

On February 12, 2012, a California Highway Officer was on patrol in the Whittier Area when his LoJack-equipped patrol vehicle picked up the silent LoJack signal of a stolen 1994 Jeep that had been stolen from the Norwalk area. After obtaining the description of the vehicle, he broadcasted to other police units that he was tracking the stolen Jeep, then located the Jeep, parked and unoccupied on Leffingwell Drive.
Assisting units responded to the area when a citizen flagged down one of the officers, claiming that he had seen the suspect who had driven the vehicle and that the suspect had asked him for help. He refused, and watched the suspect leave the area. As the officers continued their search, another citizen informed the officers that the suspect was hiding on the second floor of an apartment located in the 13900 block of Coteau. As the officers approached the building, the suspect saw them and jumped from the second floor. The suspect was apprehended without further incident.
The field investigation revealed that this suspect was a Parolee who was considered ‘Armed and Dangerous”. The officers searched the recovered Jeep and located the suspect’s driver’s license, tools used to steal the vehicle and illegal drugs. The suspect was later booked on several felony charges including the Parole Warrant.
The original owner of this vehicle had the LoJack Vehicle Recovery System installed in the Jeep in October 1994 at Don A Vee Jeep.
