Philadelphia Officers Conduct Traffic Stop, Arrest Suspect and Recover Stolen Honda EX-L

On Saturday, January 28, 2012, the owner of a 2011 Honda EX-L discovered that his vehicle had been stolen from in front of his residence in South Philadelphia. The owner called 911 and Philadelphia Police Radio dispatched a 1st District officer to investigate the incident. The officer arrived on location, interviewed the victim and surveyed the area for the subject vehicle. When the vehicle could not be located, the assigned officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and arranged to have information about the stolen Honda entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Minutes later, Philadelphia Police 3rd District Officers began to pick up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers installed in their vehicles. Following the computer cues, the officers tracked the Honda to the area of Snyder Avenue and distributed an all police bulletin with a description of the stolen vehicle to officers in South Philadelphia.
A few minutes after the broadcast, officers in an unmarked police vehicle on an unrelated investigation, reported that they were directly behind the LoJack-equipped stolen Honda traveling on Snyder Avenue. The officers continued to inform Police Radio of their position, and other officers in the area converged upon their location. A marked police vehicle pulled behind the subject vehicle and signaled to the driver with overhead lights and sirens to pull to the curb. The driver stopped the vehicle, and he was quickly arrested by police.
The suspect was transported to Philadelphia Police South Detective Division, where he was charged with numerous violations of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code related to theft. The stolen Honda was returned to the grateful owner.
