LoJack Aids in Arrest of One Suspect and Recovery of Toyota RAV4 Stolen in El Cajon

On the afternoon of January 2, 2012, the owner of a 2001 Toyota RAV4 discovered that her vehicle had been stolen in El Cajon and immediately contacted the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department to report the theft.
San Diego deputies completed a stolen vehicle report and had the information about the stolen RAV4 entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
A short while later, ground unit officers from the La Mesa Police Department began to pick up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen RAV4 on the LoJack Police Tracking Computer installed in their patrol car. Following the computer’s directional cues, the officers tracked and located the vehicle, parked in a parking stall on Parks Avenue. The officers observed a suspect inside the Rav4, and quickly placed him under arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle. The RAV4 was returned to the grateful owner, who was pleased that her vehicle was equipped with LoJack and thus, had been recovered quickly, undamaged.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Toyota Rav4 10 years earlier, in August 2001, in San Deigo, California.
