Car & Foot Chase, K-9 Unit Deployment Lead to Arrest of Suspect and Quick Recovery of Stolen Honda Accord

On January 22, 2012, the owner of a 2007 Honda Accord discovered that his vehicle had been stolen and immediately contacted the Redwood City Police Department to report the theft. This police report, and the subsequent entry of the stolen Accord’s information in the state and federal crime computers, automatically and seamlessly activated the hidden LoJack transponder in the victim’s vehicle.
Less than 30 minutes later, officers from San Joaquin Sheriff’s Office in the City of Stockton began to pick up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda on the Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers located the moving vehicle and attempted to pull it over. However, the driver of the stolen Honda refused to pull over and attempted to elude police. A brief car pursuit ensued before the suspect jumped from the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The officers deployed a K-9 unit, which quickly caught the fleeing suspect. The suspect, who was later found to be a parolee, was arrested and booked on several charges. The owner of the Honda was notified of its recovery.
*This is the second time this vehicle has been stolen — and safely recovered using LoJack. The last time was on December 17, 2009.
