LASD Officers Locate Stolen Dodge Magnum Abandoned with License Plates Removed

On New Year’s Eve morning, 2011, the owners of a 2005 Dodge Magnum contacted the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD) to report the vehicle stolen.

LASD responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Dodge’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Dodge and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.

Twenty three minutes later, LASD deputies from the Lakewood Station picked up the LoJack signal from the stolen 2005 Dodge Magnum on the LoJack Police Tracking Computers in their patrol vehicles. Following the computer’s cues, they tracked the Dodge to the 10300 block of Hacienda Street where they located the vehicle, parked and unoccupied. The vehicle had not been stripped or damaged, but the suspect had removed the license plates. The owner was notified and responded to the location to pick up his vehicle.
