Toyota Sienna Van Stolen and Recovered in San Francisco in Less than an Hour

On the morning of January12, 2012, the owner of a 2011 Toyota Sienna went outside of her home in San Francisco to discover that the van had been stolen overnight. She immediately contacted the San Francisco Police Department to report the theft.
San Francisco Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Toyota’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Toyota and initiated the tracking of the van.
Less than an hour later, San Francisco officers, whose vehicles were all equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers, began to receive the silent LoJack tracking signal from the stolen van. Following the computer cues, officers tracked the signal to the Bay View Area of San Francisco. Officers located the undamaged stolen Toyota, abandoned in an off-street empty lot. The owner was called to reclaim her van, and suggested that the van could have been stolen with the valet key left in the glove compartment.
