Stolen Nissan Sentra Recovered in Ten Minutes by Kern County Police Using LoJack

On December 20, 2011, the owner of a 2008 Nissan Sentra contacted the Bakersfield Police Department to report the vehicle stolen.
Bakersfield Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Nissan’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Nissan and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
Just 10 minutes later, an investigator with the Kern County Auto Theft Task Force began receiving the silent signal from the stolen vehicle on his onboard LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The investigator ran the reply code that appeared on his display screen and received the stolen vehicle information and a description of the Nissan. Following the computer cues, the investigator tracked the vehicle to the 1800 block of F Street in Bakersfield where he located the abandoned Nissan parked on the side of the road. The vehicle was recovered intact and undamaged; it was stored pending release to the owner.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Nissan Sentra in February of 2008.
