Quick Police Action Leads to Recovery of Stolen Honda Civic, Undamaged, in Fresno

On New Year’s Day 2012, the owner of a 1998 Honda Civic DX contacted the Fresno Police Department to report the vehicle stolen.
The Fresno Police responded to the scene, prepared a stolen vehicle report and had the stolen Honda’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Honda and initiated the tracking of the vehicle.
About two hours later, a deputy from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department began receiving the silent signal from the stolen Honda on his onboard LoJack Police Tracking Computer. The deputy ran the reply code that appeared on his display screen and received the stolen Honda’s information and a description of the vehicle. Following the computer cues, the deputy tracked the Honda to the corner of Stanislaus and M Streets in downtown Fresno. There, he located the abandoned vehicle, parked at the curb in a business district. The vehicle was recovered intact and undamaged; it was stored pending release to the owner.
The LoJack Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the Honda Civic in July of 2001.
